ELISABETH WILSON (1910-2000)

Elisabeth Wilson was an English humanitarian from the northern town of Huddersfield. In 1943, she founded the Hudersfield Famine Relief organization “Hudfam”, modeled in part after the famous Oxfam. Active both in Britain and abroad, she was a member of the Pacifist movement and active in the development of Buddhism in Britain. She travelled widely to raise public awareness as well as relief funds, going on missions to Palestine (1967), Cambodia (1968), Bangladesh (1971-1972), Vietnam (1973), Lebannon (1975) and Sri Lanka (1981).
