JEANNE EGGER

Jeanne Egger was the first woman to become an ICRC delegate in 1963, almost 100 years after the Geneva Convention was signed! Prior to Egger, women were relegated to roles of secretaries or nurses. After a first diplomatic mission for the ICRC in Congo, she would be sent to Rwanda, Burundi and Cyprus. She also worked at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva.
